Honesty time. There’s a big catch if you want to write online

You may have seen this.

A while back, this article attacking me went viral.

I won't tell you who wrote it. I won't give you the headline either. Not going to give this guy any more of the attention that he wanted so desperately.

But I can tell you this:

The article clearly went against Medium's publishing policies.

So I asked Medium to take it down.

1 day goes by. Post is still there

3 days go by. Post is still there, getting bigger.

1 WHOLE WEEK goes by. Post has reached viral status by now.

Finally, after 2 weeks, the post is removed.

Didn't matter. Damage was done.

I got the article taken down, but that wasn't my revenge.

My real revenge was this…

On the day the article went viral, I got more new subscribers than I had all year.

On the day the article went viral, I got more new followers than I had all year.

On the day the article went viral, I made (almost) more money than I had all year.

The lesson:

Regardless of who talks crap about you - when you post online, you win. You win subscribers. You win leads for your business. You win customers. You win fans.

I won't lie, though...

Being talked about sucks.

I nearly gave up on writing the first time it happened. This time, 10 years later, I still got a little sick to my stomach.

Being talked about always sucks.

My go-to move for getting over it these days: I just look at my Google Drive. There are 1,000s of testimonials there. I remember that the work I do matters. I help people.

Most of those testimonials come from people who have taken The Fearless Writer Challenge.

You know what it is by now.

But I'll point out 2 more facts:

  • The Fearless Writer is BY FAR our most completed course
  • We've run 12 challenges. One person has done 11 of them. Many others take 3 or 4. Same challenge! But they want more.

If you're looking to get on a new trajectory for the first months of 2025, this might be it.

Although I'm quite biased and possibly evil. Just ask the rogue bloggers.

Important:

The deadline to enroll in The Fearless Writer Challenge is tonight (January 5th) at midnight.

Time to get off the fence.

Talk soon,

  • Tim

P.S. The challenge is affordable, but to take even more sting out of the enrollment fee, I’ve given you an option to pay only half now and half when the challenge is finished (February 10th)

Over the holidays I took my Tesla to the beach. The car drove by itself most of the way with my hands off the wheel. This is the future. Every writer leaves behind two graves when they die. The first one holds the body. That’s not so important. The second one holds the ideas they never got to write. That’s why I’m so intense about writing. It’s why I publish seven to ten blogs per week. It’s why I’m on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Substack constantly. I’ve never been worried about writing too much. I’m terrified I’ll write too little. What if I leave behind some of my best ideas? What if I never get the chance to talk about...
