How to know when to quit

People say the only way to fail in businesses is to quit.

Eh.

Sort of true

But “winning” at age 92 isn’t exciting to most people.

Who wants to finally hit it big in business right before they pack you in your underground lunchbox?

What are you going to do with the cash?

Take it?

Gonna tuck your bucks in the coffin like this guy who buried his BMW X5 with him when he kicked the bucket?

“You can’t fail if you don’t quit!”

One of those inspiring slogans.

Kind of empty too.

The better question to ask is:

What needs to happen to make doing business worth it?

Example:

If a child stayed in nappies forever, you'd never have one.

(Take it from me.)

Even though I was amped about Baby Denning 2, and even though Lady Denning was 100% on board, there are still moments when I wake up at 3:00, look at her, and think:

Woof.

This is friggin hard.

Plus — I got struck with another daycare virus from hell yesterday.

Can’t speak above a whisper.

These sicknesses have been a constant part of my life since Baby Denning 1 hit the scene.

The irony:

I switched to vegan living over a decade ago and enjoyed many years of perfect health…

Just to get taken down by some snot-nosed brats mouth breathing on my daughter.

(And no, carnivores, I wouldn’t be better off if I ate steak. I'd get sick twice as much. You’ll never convince me to chomp cow again.)

Anyway back to the point of this section

Why would have a kid if it's so awful when you first bring it home?

Because the growth makes the pain worth the cost.

The infant gets replaced with a toddler, who gets replaced with an adolescent, replaced with a teenager and so on. Many happy moments in the future for me, assuming all goes as planned. And she can also decide if it's time to pull the plug on poor old Papa Denning when I turn 157.

In order to stay positive through the suffering, you have to see the growth.

Same with digital business.

Or “making m0ney online” if you want to call it that.

You have to see the growth.

And when you're running a digital business, you can grow fast.

You can make $10 this month and $10,000 next month and $100,000 the month after that.

This is a theoretical example.

But the point holds:

The faster the growth, the less likely you are to quit.

That’s why in every onboarding call with our new Fearless Money Makers clients, we ask ourselves the question:

“What is the fastest way for this person to grow?”

Everyone has their own assets.

Connections, skills, audience, email list, product idea, something.

Our job is to pull it out of them.

Like Holly, who onboarded yesterday. She was great at one thing and we made a plan to execute on it creatively.

She now has a homework assignment that no client has ever had.

Try getting that result from an online course.

Alright enough now.

If you’re ready to get help starting or scaling your digital business, here are the steps:

Over the holidays I took my Tesla to the beach. The car drove by itself most of the way with my hands off the wheel. This is the future. Every writer leaves behind two graves when they die. The first one holds the body. That’s not so important. The second one holds the ideas they never got to write. That’s why I’m so intense about writing. It’s why I publish seven to ten blogs per week. It’s why I’m on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Substack constantly. I’ve never been worried about writing too much. I’m terrified I’ll write too little. What if I leave behind some of my best ideas? What if I never get the chance to talk about...
